The Uganda Federation of MG Community Credit Cooperatives (UFCC) is an umbrella organisation for MG Community Credit Cooperatives in Uganda. The Maul Geumgos (Korean for village bank) were initiated in Uganda as a follow on of a bilateral agreement between the Government of Uganda and Government of South Korea during the visit of the President of the Republic of Korea to Uganda. The Korean Federation of Community Credit Cooperatives (KFCC) was invited as a result to introduce the successful Saemaul Geumgo (Korean “new village” banking) model in Uganda. To kick-start this intervention, KFCC carried out two International training workshops for Uganda on the successful village banking cooperative model. This training targeted Government officials from two Ministries; Local Government and Ministry of trade, industry and cooperatives as well as Cooperative organizations and village leaders.
In 2018, KFCC signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives and commenced the support towards the establishment of Saemaul Geumgos (popularly known as MGs) in Uganda. Today there are 18 MGs in Uganda
On the 23rd August 2022, the Saemaul Geumgos convened and formed the Uganda Federation of MG Community Credit Cooperatives (UFCC) to provide; advocacy, training, financial services and supervision. UFCC was officially registered on the 6th September 2022 by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives.
The UFCC Governance Structure is comprised of 5 Board of Directors and 3 Supervisory Board members who are elected from the member MG Community Credit Cooperatives.
